"Thirty years ago when I was kind of an angry and not very young lad, I found myself driven into defensive positions because I was
scared of stuff, and I've come to realize that in that personal story, maybe somewhere hidden in there exists an allegory for more
general and universal themes, political and social themes,". "It's really for that reason that I decided that I'd try and create a new
performance of this piece using a lot of the same things that we did all those years ago." We're going to be projecting over 140
yards. So now its going to be 1,500 pixels wide. We've done light tests in
Boston at Fenway Park and Chicago at  Wrigley Field, as
well as Yankee Stadium just to see what the ambient light is like. And its fine. It works"

Roger Waters Speaks with Steve Kroft on CBS 60 Minutes

Roger Waters, while breaking attendance records during ‘The Wall’
tour, spoke with CBS’ ’60 Minutes’ on Sunday May 20 to talk about the
tour, reasons for leaving Pink Floyd, and how  he wishes everyone
would just leave their cell phones at home.

Interviewer Steve Kroft calls Roger Waters “prickly”  however he adds
that even at 68, the legendary songwriter is also “gracious” and “totally
committed to his work.”

Steve Asked why ‘The Wall’ has had such staying power with fans,
Waters replied, “I think it strikes some chords that may be just beneath
surface in most of us. What it’s about is the walls that exist between
human beings, whether on a family level or on a global level. And I
think that resonates with people.”

Roger Waters has taken great pains in the stage show to reproduce
the sound of the original record, even using several artists to replicate
— note for note — what Pink Floyd’s singer and guitarist David Gilmour
did. That made Steve ask the obvious question: did Waters ever think
about pulling his old band mates back in?

He barely had the question out of his mouth before Waters stopped
him.

“There must have been a reason back in 1985 why I left Pink Floyd, left
the name, left that big umbrella of comfort … and there was a reason
for why I did, okay,” he said. “And [that reason] didn’t go away, certainly,
in the intervening 25 years or however long it’s been.”

But something Roger feels has changed are concert-goers —
specially, the ones who wield cell phones at his shows. “It drives me
insane,” he said, adding that he does not understand why people are
so focused on taking photos of the show and staring at a tiny screen
when there’s “this huge spectacle” going on in front of them.

Bitching aside, though, Waters loves his job — and has no illusions
about the life of a rock star.

“People always used to say, it must be so hard you know, how do you
do it? You know, it must be so hard being on the road, being in a rock
and roll band. It’s amazing that you survived. And I would look at them
like, what are you talking about?” he said.

“It’s the easiest job in the world … I mean, compared with something
really hard, like for instance, looking after a two-year-old child, it’s an
absolute doddle.”

Roger Explains why tour now.

"I recently came across this quote of mine from 22 years ago: ” What it comes down to for me is this: Will the technologies of communication in our culture, serve to enlighten us and help us to understand
one another better, or will they deceive us and keep us apart?” I believe this is still a supremely relevant question and the jury is out. There is a lot of commercial clutter on the net, and a lot of propaganda,
but I have a sense that just beneath the surface understanding is gaining ground.  We just have to keep blogging, keep twittering, keep communicating, keep sharing ideas. 30 Years ago when I wrote The
Wall I was a frightened young man. Well not that young, I was 36 years old. It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear
and loss with it’s concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns.: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, Whatever!  All these issues and ‘isms
are driven by the same fears that drove my young life. This new production of The Wall is an attempt to draw some comparisons, to illuminate our current predicament, and is dedicated to all the innocent lost
in the intervening years. In some quarters, among the chattering classes, there exists a cynical view that human beings as a collective are incapable of developing more ‘humane’ ie, kinder, more
generous, more cooperative, more empathetic relationships with one another. I disagree. In my view it is too early in our story to leap to such a conclusion, we are after all a very young species.

I believe we have at least a chance to aspire to something better than the dog eat dog ritual slaughter that is our current response to our institutionalized fear of each other.

I feel it is my responsibility as an artist to express my, albeit guarded, optimism, and encourage others to do the same. To quote the great man, ” You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

Rogers Waters Last Tour

I'm not as young as I used to be. I'm not like B.B. King, or Muddy Waters," the 66-year-old said. "My friend Eric Clapton ... he'll be playing guitar and he'll be on stage 'til the day he dies, because that's what he does."
"I'm not a great vocalist or a great instrumentalist or whatever, but I still have the fire in my belly, and I have something to say," he continued. "I have a swan song in me and I think this will probably be it."

On the subject of the reunion in 2005, he reflects on the importance of the "symbiosis between the four band members, in which I call the golden years of the band, all we contributed, the combination of the four separated talents was something very very special”.

However, he has thought about the possible obsticle to another reunion. “The problem is this one: during 20 years [Pink Floyd] has been [David Gilmour's] baby, for that reason he is so obstinate. If we reunited for any reason, I would be delighted to do it. Not a single
show, but a series of events that we could do. It would be very satisfactory for me... but I do not believe that Dave wants to do it.”

He noted that he holds rich memories from Mexico, when he was there in 2002.“Fans did something amazing the last time that I was there. As an encore I played 'Flickering Flame', and something happened that I'd never seen before: 30 thousand people igniting and
extinguishing its lighters to the sound of a song that they'd never heard.

“That was fabulous, absolutely fabulous. I have never seen it in any other city of the world. I hope that they do it again”, he said, smiling.
