Pulse dvd launch Recap

The event kicked off with a special screening of PULSE followed by a rare Questions & Answer session
with David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason.

They were asked if watching one of their classic performances, and seeing how much they enjoyed it,
had made them want to play live again. Rick Wright answered with a “Yes.”

David Gilmour stated “Well, you know, we’ve all been out. All four of the old group, the classic line up, if
you want to call it that, have been out plying our trade this year and so we all are doing exactly that and it’s
been enormously great fun for myself. My plan is to just meander my own particular way for the time
being.”

Rick added, “And I guess my plan is to meander along. and whenever Dave wants me to play with him, I’
m really happy to play with him. And [to David] You’ll play with me right?”

David responded “Of course!” followed by Nick quipping “Of course, I’m available to everyone.” (Which
brought laughter & applause!)

The band also commented on their Live 8 show, and were asked if they felt the event had achieved its
goals. David answered “Well, the performance was great and we had a wonderful time. One can only
hope that it did some good; the jury’s still out I think, but I’m sure it was better to have done it than to have
not done it.”

Nick said “I think it achieved certain elements of what was required,” and added, “and I think, as far as I’m
concerned, the most useful thing was that I think it moved the dialogue on from this idea that rock
concerts, or charity rock concerts, are there in order simply to send food parcels".

"I think a lot of people after that at least started asking questions about the politics of world trade and I
think that’s enormously worthwhile and I also think, you know, we haven’t finished. I think Bob Geldof is
particularly exercised at the moment about ensuring that promises or undertakings…were made."

Last year Pink Floyd played together with Roger Waters at Live8. It seemed that you found the common voice together after more than twenty years. The logical question looking to
the future is: will Pink Floyd tour or make any records with the classic line-up?

We won’t make any new albums as our two main songwriters, Roger and David, are working on their solo projects so they haven’t got much time. Nevertheless we won’t go to the studio
because this way we can avoid those problems which shook the band earlier. The tension was always the biggest during the rehearsals or in the studio.

Live8 was an interesting and amazing experience. We all felt twenty years younger thanks to Bob Geldof. The only potential in the classic Pink Floyd line-up is a world tour. But David got
tired of touring around the world after the Division Bell tour, and he said that he never wants to do such big tours again. At some point it is odd for me that it is David who doesn’t like the
plan of a tour and not Roger who was the major cause of our disagreements. He has grown calmer now and he has surmounted the wounds of the past.

Everybody expected the opposite.

Yes, David is so focused on his solo career now that he doesn’t want to think of Pink Floyd while Roger would like to. If David gave us the nod we could start to prepare the tour. We were
famous of not making ordinary concerts but making very spectacular and monumental shows for our audience. With new technologies we could do new miracles. Sometimes I imagine
that if we had to create the sound we did in the seventies it would be much easier. But it would be less interesting. A few clicks with a mouse or one hundred kilograms of metal full of
wire. I vote on the latter. (Laughs.) So back to Live8: we need this kind of motivation to play again or to get inspiration. We’ve had money and fame for a long time, that is not the point. We
have to feel something more, not just that we can make seventy concerts around the world.

Roger left after the release of the Final Cut album. Didn’t you think of stopping him?

No, not at all! We realised that we have to keep on going consciously without him. We were left alone but we felt stronger and we really got filled with the feeling that we had to prove
ourselves. By that time Pink Floyd wasn’t really Pink Floyd but rather Roger’s shadow as both The Wall and the Final cut was mostly his work.

We started to write new songs carefully and we were frightened of the release of the new album. The Momentary Lapse of Reason album turned out well but the Division Bell outclasses
it, being more mature
Roger Unhappy with Gilmour Interviews

Mark Caro from Chicago Tribune reports running into
Roger at a Vanity fair party in Hollywood. This is what Bob
Had to say, "At one point I looked down, and Roger
Waters of Pink Floyd was sitting and chatting. Soon he
stood up, and I asked him about his plans to tour a
concert version of Floyd's classic "Dark Side of the Moon"
album in Europe with Floyd drummer Nick Mason in his
band. He's still looking for someone to sing David
Gilmour's parts. I suggested David Gilmour, but, alas,
last summer's triumphant Live 8 Pink Floyd reunion didn't
stick, and Waters said Gilmour has been dumping on
him interviews again, saying Live 8 would've sounded
just as good without Waters. Suddenly Naomi Watts
walked by, and Waters said, "Excuse me, I've got to talk to
her." And it clicked: Watts told me years ago that her
father was a Floyd sound engineer; it's his laughter you
hear at the beginning of "Dark Side of the Moon."
Following the article a fan asks for more info about
talking to Roger in which Bob answers with a great reply.

Roger too "Tired" to reform with Floyd?

It is speculated In our first chance to see Pink Floyd reform
since Live 8, Roger turned down a offer by David to perform
with him, Nick and Rick at the final show at the Rah on May
31. Roger claimed to be tired from rehearsing earlier in the
day. It is very disappointing because as we all know the
night was being filmed for the upcoming On an Island dvd.

David thinks Roger owes him a apology

Greg Kot from the Chicago tribune interviewed David recently and some unexpected news came up about David inviting Roger to his birthday and him feeling a apology is still needed.

Kot: Do you still feel Roger owes you an apology?

Gilmour: Yeah. I do feel that I never did him any harm whatsoever, and he has done me a fair amount of harm. But life is too short to let these things dominate your life. Roger asked me if
I would do [Live 8] because he could be a part of it with us. And I was persuaded to say yes. But we never discussed any of the actual issues [that caused Waters to sue his former
bandmates for continuing as Pink Floyd after Waters quit in 1984]. We chatted and had a good time. We went out to dinner together and enjoyed ourselves and talked about life. But there
were a few large topics we didn't approach, of course. Our problems with Roger were 25 years ago. That's an awfully long time to be still mad. I've made one or two minor openings to
him. I invited him to my 50th birthday in 1996, as well as inviting him to play "Dark Side of the Moon" with us in 1994. And he didn't come either time. He didn't even come to my birthday
this year, which I invited him to.

Kot: Having spoken to Roger a few times, he doesn't sound like the apologetic type.

Gilmour: Yeah, yeah. He's also a talented guy. I do wish him well. We were pretty effective working together for a long, long time. But it's amazing we got on as well as we did for as long
we did. He can read the complete interview
